Summary
10K Investment Return shows what a starting investment of 10,000 currency units would be worth today if it had followed the displayed total-return series. It is a way to express performance in an amount that is easier to interpret than a percentage alone.
Reinvested and non-reinvested views
The Reinvested view assumes distributions are reinvested into the investment. The Non-reinvested view shows price performance without reinvesting those distributions. The two views can therefore produce different results, especially for securities that pay dividends.
Value Today
Value Today is the calculated current value of the starting 10,000 investment under the selected return view and available history. It is not a promise of what an investor would receive after fees, taxes, spreads, or dealing costs.
How to Calculate Value Today
Value Today = 10,000 × (1 + Total Return %)
10Y Total Return
10Y Total Return describes the percentage change over the available ten-year comparison period, including the treatment of distributions used by the selected series. It may be unavailable when the instrument does not have enough history.
How to Calculate the 10Y Total Return
Total Return % = ((Ending Value – Starting Value) / Starting Value) × 100
Annual Return from Range
Annual Return (from range) annualises the return between the start and end points of the range currently selected on the chart. It helps compare periods of different lengths, but annualisation can make a short period look unusually large or small.
Annual Return = ((Ending Value / Starting Value) ^ (1 / Number of Years) – 1) × 100
Using the range controls
Choose a range to change the comparison window, then use zoom or hover controls to inspect the underlying points. Changing the range changes the annualised result and the 10K calculation. Check the dates shown before comparing two securities.
Things to keep in mind
Historical total returns are not forecasts. The figures depend on the source series, the selected period, the treatment of distributions, and the absence or inclusion of fees, taxes, and other investor costs.
