MeDirect Bank publishes update on regulatory approvals
New company announcement issued
MeDirect Bank (Malta) plc has published a new company announcement concerning regulatory approvals.
The announcement, issued on 30 September 2026 under reference MED173, carries the title “FAP Regulatory Approvals” and forms part of a series of recent governance-related updates by the Bank.
Several senior appointments had been awaiting approval
MeDirect has made a number of changes to its senior management and governance structure in recent months.
Appointments previously identified as being subject to regulatory approval include Maria Micallef as Independent Non-Executive Director, Chris Portelli as Chief Technology Officer and Executive Director, and Murali Subramanian as Malta Business Chief Commercial Officer.
These positions sit within MeDirect’s wider governance framework, which includes its Board of Directors, executive management team and committees responsible for areas such as audit, risk, compliance, nominations and remuneration.
Regulatory approval forms part of banking governance
The title of the 30 September announcement confirms that the update concerns regulatory approvals, although the information available does not make clear which specific appointments are covered.
For that reason, no individual appointment should be directly linked to the approval without reference to the full MED173 announcement.
Regulatory clearance for certain senior appointments is an important part of the governance and supervisory framework applying to licensed credit institutions, particularly where roles carry significant responsibility for the management, oversight or control of a bank.
