CrediaBank Expands Investment Services Strategy with Pantelakis Acquisition

CrediaBank has agreed to acquire a 70% stake in Greek brokerage firm Pantelakis Securities for €8.75 million, extending its expansion strategy across banking and investment services in the region. The transaction, announced in May, includes an option to acquire the remaining 30% shareholding three years after completion. Closing is expected during the third quarter of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals.

Pantelakis Securities’ Market Role and Service Profile

Pantelakis Securities is one of Greece’s longstanding brokerage firms, providing equity, fixed-income and capital markets services to institutional and retail investors. The acquisition is expected to strengthen CrediaBank’s presence in investment services and capital markets activities, while diversifying revenue streams beyond traditional banking operations. The deal comes as CrediaBank awaits regulatory approval for its planned acquisition of a 70.03% stake in HSBC Bank Malta. Taken together, the transactions represent a significant expansion of the Greek lender’s footprint across both banking and brokerage services.

For Malta’s financial sector, the development is noteworthy given CrediaBank’s prospective role as the controlling shareholder of HSBC Malta. The acquisition of Pantelakis broadens the group’s exposure to capital markets and investment products at a time when financial institutions across Europe are seeking to increase fee-based income and reduce reliance on interest margins. According to the bank, the transaction is expected to have only a limited impact on its capital position. Management has stated that Pantelakis will continue operating under its existing leadership structure following completion.
