62+ Bondholders offered Roll-Over into new 62+ MGS
Existing 2021 bondholders offered rollover option
The Ministry for Finance announced on 18 September 2026 that eligible holders of the 62+ Malta Government Savings Bond – Issue 2021 whose names appeared on the register at close of business on 4 September 2026, will be given the option to roll over the full nominal value of their investment into a new 62+ Savings Bond – Issue.
The new bond will take effect on 15 October 2026, the same date on which the existing 2021 issue matures.
New bond offers 3.50% interest for five years
The new issue will largely follow the same terms as the 2021 bond issue and will pay interest of 3.50% per annum over a five-year term, maturing on 15 October 2031.
Interest will be paid twice yearly, in arrears, on 15 April and 15 October.
As with the previous issue, the bond cannot be traded, assigned or transferred to another person, nor can it be pledged as security.
Roll-over applications closing on 2 October
Eligible bondholders wishing to take up the rollover must submit the prescribed application form by Friday, 2 October 2026.
Those who do not apply will have their capital repaid when the existing bond matures on 15 October 2026.
As with previous 62+ bond issuances, investors will also have the option to redeem the new bond early, although this will be subject to a charge equivalent to three months’ gross interest on the amount withdrawn.
The Ministry said the terms of the new issue are set out in the prospectus published on 18 September 2026.
